Description

:iconartistle: has an art challenge going on with the subject of dogs, and I thought it would be fun to put something together for it.

Canines aren't something I draw very much, and my dog is giving me a look which is making me feel guilty about that.  Though really she's probably just upset that I'm not taking her for a walk tonight due to the rain.  Anyway, one of the things I've been trying to do lately is draw things outside of my comfort zone, so this seemed like it'd fit that as well.  My dog wasn't enthusiastic about being a model for me, but she stuck around despite all the weird angles I was looking at her.

It was interesting how much of my figure drawing construction applied to dogs, probably a product of mammals having fairly similar body structures.  I did a few practice sketches of the pooch to get an idea how they worked.  It was going well so I decided to up the ante and try and work some perspective into this as well.

It was fun to try a new subject, it gave an interesting look into some of the other things I've been trying to learn (perspective and inking).

The setting in this picture looks so well done!
I love the feeling of movement and the perspective! You have done a lovely job on the anatomy too. At least as far as I can go into dog's anatomy, it looks just fine!

Only one thing wouldn't want to agree with me. The background... What happened to it? The tree is lovely... but the grass... The movement seems coming in some sort of angle. So the straight horizontal grass-line looks soo wrong.... If it would have gone a little bit diagonal up from left to right, it could have looked better. And Another super small detail, which I noticed just after the grass. Where is the tree supposed to be? About the same distance away from the camera as the owner or as the dog's back legs? But this misake here is mostly just because of the grass, I believe~ And a little advice... Of course, drawing each grass thingy would be a torture... but what you have done here isn't good looking either... I would suggest you either leaving the grass plain or drawing few grass chunks. Not as many as you have here, but just few to remind that it's grass~ And draw chunks not single grass stalks~
