Unnatural Formations

is having another art challenge!  This time the subject is mountains, which is another subject I've never really attempted.

As I still have this fascination with comic book inking, I wanted to do this entirely in black and white.  I'm pretty happy with the overall technique I came up with for this, but I'm not entirely excited about the execution of this particular drawing.  I think a few places are a little overworked.

Regardless this was a great project for me to work on.  While creating this I learned how to ink rocks as well as mountains.  I'm no expert as you can see, but these first steps are always fun and exciting.  That loose experimentation to get a feel for the new subject, then eventually that "Ah-Ha!" moment when you finally realize how to render it.  

I'm still not in the habit of drawing backgrounds for all my pictures, but these sort of challenges go a long way in making me comfortable with doing them.
